Well, unfortunately this did not work as hoped. But, I think I discovered the problem. I have been trying to remove the lifter "through" the pushrod tube. Looks like the pushrod tube needs to be removed first.

  Not sure if this applies to vanagon, but my previous misutbishi...pressurized the cylinder and removed easily. Just don't drop anything inside. Pull the plug and screw air in.

    I was adjusting my lifters when I discovered one was very soft.  I can easily push it in with the palm of my hand. I also know this cylinder is a little low on compression as well (165 vs 185 for the others). And the final piece of  evidence that the lifter might be weak, is that the adjusting screws has a hammered look that the others don't have.


    Just can't get the old one out.
