Mike, I discovered that I had another lifter that was spongy on a cylinder
that had 180 lbs of compression. So my theory that the first spongy lifter I
found was causing lower compression was wrong. I also noticed that the
sponginess went away as I preloaded the lifter with the 2 turns as per
Bentley. So, as a result of your input, and my futzing I have decided to
leave well enough alone. No new lifters. The engine is actually running
great, and I think the rebuilt injectors solved the slowly increasing idle
speed problem.
