205/70 SR 14 tires are for Vanawagons with alloy wheels ONLY. Narrow steel wheels will take 180R14 or 195R14.

As for hose sizes I agree with you. I don't think the manufacturer would change to narrower hoses only on models with alloy wheels due to cost considerations.
