I don't think it matters Dan, either way should work fine as far as I know. It's not like it's a metal-bodied device and one side might be grounded in the device - it's just a heating element in a plastic part I believe.

Have been in the engine compartment today, cleaning grounds and any electrical contacts that looked corroded and such. Accidentally pulled the wires out of the crankcase return air heating element without noting which contact was ground and which was 12 volt. The connector will only go in one way----there are two wires. Black(12v) and Brown(ground). I need somebody to look at their van to know which side the black wire should go into.

If you pull the connector and use a strong magnifying glass(or have young eyes), you can see that the end of the plug is marked with a I and II. Which of these should the black wire plug into?

Another way of determining this: if you pull the connector and look at the end, two corners of the connector are 90 degree angles and the other two corners are bevelled or at a slant to 90 degrees. With the 90 degree angles at the top and the bevelled at the bottom, which side should the black wire attach to. Be advised, it would be necessary to pull back the rubber boot to make certain the wires aren't twisted inside the boot.

Hope this makes sense and ain't too much trouble for some kind soul.
