Other people will have other recommendations, But what I do , is spray 'everything' with WD-40. That's like everywhere except inside the alternator, And not inside the distrubtor, but all contacts, all ignition parts..... Etc. And on air-cooled vanagons ........they uses push-on spade connectors for grounds that I've seen.......... Funny how you can just learn where the weak areas on VW's are by observing the upgrades they, VW, do from year to year or model to model.

On the 1.9 waterboxer that comes after the air-cooled- they have screw and eye grounds, and a two contact temp sensor for the ecu, upgraded over what air-cooled vanagons have. That means something. Many thanks to all that have responded. I tested the wiring back to a corroded contact?at the relay. Cleaned it up and all is good again.?Similar problem I had last year, a corroded contact at the O2 sensor caused me a pile of grief. I think I better check all my wiring for signs of other potential problems.

Thanks again, Gerry www.vanalong.com
