Subject: [NVC] Need advice for removing broken bolt
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

No, it's not a broken head bolt. it's not even related to things on four wheels. Or two. Or any wheels.

I have a piece of electronics gear I am repairing. There is a 1/2'' thick piece of 6062 aluminum with a 632 blind tapped hole in it. A mild steel bolt that was threaded into the hole snapped off flush with the surface. There's nothing to get a hold of. Both sides of the aluminum panel serve a cosmetic function so I can't just ignore it or putty it over, or heat it with a torch, or drill from the other side ... a-and I need to remount the dingus that was originally held by the bolt back in the same place. So I need to get the darn bolt stub out w/o scarring anything. It would be okay to drill a larger hole and press or epoxy a threaded insert into the hole to provide new threads, but the first step is getting the darn broken bolt out. 632 is a wee bit small, I think, for your usual bolt extractor.

Anyone got any good ideas, please p-mail me.
