The Tioga Pass remains open till sometime in November when snow falls. There will be still people around so you will not be totally alone. But there will be little or no running water in the creeks. Lakes will be low and no snow on hill top. September and October are indeed great time to camp in the the Sierra. I am going to Yosemite today. There should be lots of water and Spring colors. Probably very crowded too. Tioga Pass is still closed. Glacier Point may be open today. Found out my brake lights were both defective last night. Had to fix them in the dark. Turned out to be rusty light bulb sockets. Will be on the way in 10 minutes.
