Vanagons are not a smart platform for an electric vehicle. It's way too heavy. You should only consider electrifying a Vanagon if you need cargo space and a very short range at slow speeds. I'm not bashing EV's, I think electric vehicles, hybrids, and PHEV's are really cool, but you have to realize a gallon of gas is equivalent to between 10 and 15 kilowatt-hours of energy. Now calculate how large a motor required to propel a Vanagon and you'll see you need a busload of batteries to go the distance that 2 gallons of gas will propel you. If you want to be eco friendly, buy a small car as a daily driver or a small electric car. |
