For sure you need to get the read drums off asap.
Might be a mess in there.
And I've had drums be just awful to get off sometimes too.
Ideally, after you remove the two 11mm little bolts, you just whack the drum
hard on the edge with a good BFH, and the drum just pops off the flange.
Penetrating oil where the drum sits on the flange can help. I wouldn't worry
about contaminating the shoes too much.
If I just can not get the drum off the flange, I undo the big nut and remove
the drum and flange together.
That 'should' just slide off. I've had those stick like hell too. Spend an
hour or more recently, getting drum and flange off together as a unit.
Had to finally get out a slide hammer puller. I've had to resort to a torch
a few times even.
If the brakes are really old, be aware that there could be a big lip keep
the drum from sliding over the shoes and off. It's barely possible to sneak
in there and undo the self-adjuster mechanism about 20 clicks.
So make sure that's not happening.
And I've had the flange just 'stuck' in old thick grease on the axle spines
too.
If at possible, get the drum off the flange,
For doing brake work, I like to remove the wheel mounting flange too, for
easy access.
IMPORTANT TRICK ! - only take one side apart at a time !!
That's so you can go look at the other side for reference while you put the
first side back together. Never mix parts side-to-side, and I can not
emphasize enough, do one side at a time.
I've had drums or 'drums with flange' that took me too hours of struggle to
get off, and I've done hundreds of them, so I should know what I'm doing - I
hope yours come right off !

When pulling the drums, start with the side that has "mucked up" cable.
And if it were me, I whould inspect each set of rear brakes.
If drums won't come off, put penetrating oil on area where axle stub
and opening on drum meet. Clean this area too. And if needed, put
penetrating oil at holes where the little bolts go in (if they're
still there). The oil *may* work it's way inbetween the axle flange
and area where it contacts drum.
*** The oil may contaminate the brake shoes when put at the "little
bolt" holes so bear this in mind. (i.e. maybe consider it a last
resort) ***
Cheers,
Neil.
