Back in 2003 I bought my first Vanagon, a Westy that had A/C which was dead when I bought it. I went to Advanced Auto and bought a kit for $29.99 to convert it from R-12 to R134A. I followed the instructions in the kit. For at least that summer I had cold A/C. I sold the van the following winter, so I don't know if it worked the following sumer, but I felt I sure got my $29.99 worth from that kit. Especially since I paid hundreds to have another of my older vehicles converted. Every time I tell the story of the $29..99 kit, I'm always asked "But what else did you do?" Nothing! "But there has to more to it than that!" Nothing! "But..." NOTHING! No one ever believes it could have been that simple-I was surprised too. YMMV. Jeff |
