Syncro rear springs on a 2WD Vanagon make for a very stiff ride.  I put them
on my '85 and found that all my negative suspension travel was gone.  The
Westy bounced over small and medium bumps instead of absorbing them.  Part
of the problem is that Syncro spings have to be compressed to fit.  You
actually have to unbolt the rear A-arm, put int he spring, then compress the
suspension by using a jack and reinstall the outer a-arm bolt.  So, unless
you have a GM V6 engine weighing down the back end, don't do it.

If you simply need to lift a sagging rear, I made some spacers from
polyethylene cutting board.  It worked very well.
