As far as installing goes this is not the case in my experience. You can put the rear Syncro springs into a 2wd without unbolting the the a-arm as I have several times. You do for sure need to release the parking brake and sometimes, especially if a diesel, you need to loosen the cv bolts on the tranny end a few turns. That said, it is probably a bad idea unless you use the longer Syncro rear shocks and make sure the cv angles are ok, which on a diesel they won't be unless you lower the tranny nose a several inches and this adds other problems.
