I might be a bit useless here, but have you checked the basics? Plugs, plug wires, dizzy cap, rotor button?

Once in the middle of my summer trip my Westy sputtered and bucked. I said my prayers, checked my AAA coverage while clutching my rosary only to find fouled plugs. I had my old plugs as a backup so I swapped them and was merrily on the way once again... until my left front tire blew a belt 200 miles later. Sooo.... if THAT helps...
