The mechanic knows FOR SURE, the ECU is not firing the injectors? Does he have a NOID light or an osciioscope to be certain the triggering signal is not getting to the injectors ? Is power even getting to the ECU ? Bad ecu is fairly uncommon, but quite possible of course. I always carry a known-good and tested ECU. But I've never had one fail on me either. I sell one a year perhaps, but I'd rather keep the ones I have now anyway. Mine ran great . . then awful or wouldn't even start randomly for a few years, until I was tipped off to these wires going bad and shorting to ground and wreaking havoc. Black smoke, stalling out, etc. Then I discovered this board, and that this was an all to common occurrence. This was a few years ago, but at the time, I was able to buy just the electronics and not the whole distributor. Good luck, Steven Aileen Boyd <aileen.boyd@GMAIL.COM> wrote: Hi there, I am in search of an ECU for an 88' Westfalia. I need a Bosch with the following # 0-261-200-065, VW# 025-906-022. Bought one, but it has a different ECU # and a "D" after the VW #. My mechanic tried it, and it had no effect. He would like to see one that has these exact #'s and see if it helps. Never ending saga of my van running rich. Have checked all wiring to and from computer, cleaned grounds, 02 sensor good, fuel filter good. Any other ideas are welcome. Please let me know $ when you respond. Thanks!! Aileen 88' Vanagon Westfalia "Simone" -- If not Peace, then Justice.....
