Subject: Well, selling the 71 bus

Volks,
(This is a bit OT)
Mrs Squirrel and I have decided to pull up stakes and head up to Bend,
Oregon. We're cleaning up the house, tarting up the kitchen, so we can
sell our wikiup in Carlsbad, CA, along with other non-essentials. Probably
hauling the 17 y/o daughter along -- can't seem to shake the girl. But
anyway, I've decided that I only need one van in the family and the 84
Westy (note: Vanagon content) wins on account of all the Kool Kamping up
and around Bend and the sheer number of Vanagons I saw up there, which
tells me that Mellow Yellow will feel right at home.
So I've parked my 71 Type 2 (the "Wonderbus") near the local high school
with a sign saying "71 VW bus, aka GRADUATION PRESENT" on it and will list
it on Craigslist.
I had a lot of fun working on that bus. If anyone knows anyone near me
(Carlsbad is near San Diego) who might be interested in a bay window in
pretty darn good condition, the pertinent details are (as taken from the
hand-lettered "For Sale" sign):
New factory-built (not rebuilt) 1600cc dual port aircooled engine, only 8k
miles. With good maintenance will give 75,000 more miles.
New carburetor, hoses, clutch bits, and throwout.
Upgraded SVDA distributor, new Bosch coil, new electronic ignition, new
wires, plugs.
Engine cooling flaps & thermostat tested and working, engine tin all
restored to stock.
Transmission (4-speed manual) in excellent shape.
New heat exchangers (for winter heating).
New muffler.
New master cylinder (brakes) and brake shoes.
Receipts/records for all work/parts. "Bentley" service manual included in
sale.
Smog exempt, but even so, emission control system restored to CA standard.
Clean interior, new upholstery, bed in back.
Van is mechanically sound, runs great!
$4,700--first one with the money takes it!
