Maybe the difference is the location of the fan. The "D" version is meant
to sit at the bottom of the refrigerator, suck the coldest air off the
bottom of the refrigerator and "fountain" it upwards so it washes back
down over the foods. A fan at the top, like Harold describes, would not do
the same thing.
