I'm thinking that people are running these ads in order to print it out and show the owner of some car they want to buy how little the thing is worth... "look, I know you're asking 2500, but these things are all over the place on craigslist for $1100 or so. I'll give you $1200, how's that?" Running lowball ads to validate falsely low price is the only reason I can think of.
