Can anyone explain to me why you need a fuel rail on a WBX?

Couldn't you put the same thing together with some metal tees and fuel line
and proper clamps, or is there a flow volume/return built ito the design.

I mean, it seems like there is a fear of the plastic fuel rails cracking,
not just the fuel lines. Anyone making metal replacements with brakets and
hold downs?
