You could fabricate a replacement without problems.

In fact, my '84 Westy was delivered to me with NO fuel rail (cigar tube) on the driver's side. The two fuel hoses went directly to each injector. Of course, you could NOT do that on both sides as you still need a return path. It's just that the return path was reduced to a single rather than the original double. The engine ran fine, by the way.

That's something that could be done as a "Roadside" fix if one of the plastic cigar tubes broke or lost it's metal end.
