Todd, of course the best system out there is OE. I sell this system. The pipes are Dansk made in Denmark while the muffler is Ernest made in Germany. This system bolts right together and the muffler is the proper diameter for the muffler carriers (no shimming required). However this system is expensive and the cost of it is going up all of the time. One of the costs of this system that everyone seems to gloss over is the cost of the muffler carriers and straps. If the carriers are OK then you are fine however if they are rusted out they can be a major additional expense. The carriers are dealer only and there is no aftermarket. The 2wd muffler carriers are $58.88 each and you need two. Plus the muffler straps are $19 each. So if these items are bad you are looking at another $158. If you have a syncro it is worse. Not only does your complete cost of the exhaust system go up because of one of the header pipes is more expensive but the muffler carriers are also way more expensive. The muffler carriers are $108 each! So for a pair of those and the muffler straps you are looking at an additional $256. That ain't hay as they say.

I sell the S&S system is $349 and it includes the muffler supports welded onto the muffler. That is all inclusive. It fits the 2wd and the Syncro both. The quality level is not as high as the OE but the price is pretty reasonable for what you are getting. The systems are made in the USA by a family that has been in the business for over thirty years. If you are interested in more information about this system please let me know.

I never considered it for myself, though. After much research, I fell in love with the idea. Although my girlfriend and I may be breaking-up, I still had to have the Vanagon. The major, single investment will be in completely replacing the exhaust. I'm torn between price and performance. Any recommendations and advice on purchasing S&S Headers (or other aftermarket) verse an more expensive OEM exhaust? > > Thanks for your time and hope to contribute to the list serve when I gain some insight on how these things work. > > Todd > > > > ____________________________________________________________________________________ > Be a better friend, newshound, and > know-it-all with Yahoo!
