Subject: Broken engine in Las Cruces, NM HELP NEEDED!
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" ; format="flowed"

I'm posting this for a friend from SF who has broken down in Las Cruces en route to Mexico.

His 87 Vanagon engine "made a funny noise and died". He had it towed to a mechanic who then asked for the specs of the engine....seems he was not that familiar with Vanagons.

Does anyone know a Vanagon friendly shop around Las Cruces? (Larry's list doesn't list any)

Mechanic says #2 crank bearing disintegrated and ruined the crank, but the rod didn't break nor did the case.

Or are there any Vanagon owners with engine experience feel like talking to the Vanagon owner and/or visiting the mechanic to help them out?

Naturally the local VW dealer is useless.

Anyone got a good used 2.1 longblock in the Southwest? Or a good used crank and source for bearings? My friend wants to get back on the road ASAP.

Don't email me, please email or call German Maldonado (pronounced "Herman") the Vanagon owner at 415-850-4778 germanmaldonado@msn.com
