The last time I had this problem, it was not that the little box's thing was not pushed in to click. It was the voltage regulator having no good contact with the inner piece in the alternator. It was rusty. Cleaned it and then the light went off. The light can also go on when the small blue wire at the alternator is not connected or broken.
