When I removed the alternator bracket from my old 1.9 to transfer it to the 2.1, I found that it has a long crack in it. It runs from the left side edge across (and above) the left stud hole and over to the right stud hole. I've never had a problem with this bracket in use and the studs in the engine aren't affected. I then went to a tired old spare 1.9 engine and removed it's bracket. Yep, you guessed it, cracked in virtually the same place. It's engine studs are still good, too. No wonder there are so many posts about failed alternator brackets. Mike |
