Subject: Vanagons and interstates..

If there's another road available, I tend to avoid the interstates whenever possible in my Vanagon..or any other vehicle. I find those routes very boring. Your fellow travelers, when using interstates, tend to be less interesting to me also. I sometimes lose track of which state I am in when I pull off an interstate 'travel exit'. You have your "Same-O Same-O" multi-pump island and C-store with it's imbeded fast food outlet, your big rig parking areas, your Super 8 and Dennys..Your fat grumpy hordes of travelers and the family that leaves their vehicle at the pump while they goe inside to buy Cheetos and Slurpies... Ten or 15 forgettable minutes and then you get back on the super slab for another couple hundred miles...and get off again...Boring. We even tried entertaining ourselves on one trip across I-84 near Twin Falls-Boise-Mt Home.. by trying to guess what the brand of RV was as they approached....Have you ever noticed that identical RVs have very different and enthusiastic names? Check em out next time...somethin to do while you sit behind your van's wheel and endure an interstate passage... Even if I add miles to a drive, I tend to choose the smaller roads, if possible..Sure, sometimes I don't 'get somewhere' quite as quickly and maybe my cell phone won't even work in outback Nevada or Eastern Oregon...But that's Ok..And with the vanagon, I never worry about finding a cheap motel..
