I would suggest using a "6 point" box end wrench or a "6 point" socket (whatever will fit) on the fasteners instead of "12 point" tools. The 12 point is easier to get in position, but will strip the corners from a rusted fastener rather quickly. Having a 13 mm and 12 mm 6 point box end handy will help.

I like to use PB Penetrating Catalyst on the fasteners to help break them free; it really works well (I have no association with them).
