In a vanagon a real option is to park on the street. It's somewhat stealthy in the urban east coast. I really don't want a ticket and tow.

Like most 'un-written' or assumed privileges, if you seek to 'define' the 'rules' you'll find we'll all be denied. I hate it when I see stuff like "Wal-Mart overnights" being wrecked, but it seems to be on the way out. When pushy travelers start to 'assume' that camping in Wal-Mart is a right, rather than just something that's "benignly overlooked" as a matter of course, when people deploy their awnings and set up barbies at 4pm in the lot...Not good.. As soon as someone really "steps in it", Wal-Mart's legal staff will 'intrude' and mandate that nationwide the stores prohibit overnight parking in their lots...likely they will cite "Insurance or Liability"..and then you WILL get ticketed for parking there overnight, or have some cop banging on your van at 3am telling you to move on... Too bad, because the late night Wal Mart snooze was often the only real alternative, in some areas, to keeping on driving till you fell asleep or to renting a $100 motel bed for an hour or two..
