Dave,

I have a Subie 2.2 in a Syncro and I have the Syncro snorkel tube attached to the Subie airbox so that my intake opening is at the rear vent level instead of the level of the engine bay. The stock airbox from a Subie 2.2 has a second, rubber-grommeted hole that takes the Syncro snorkel tube perfectly. Taking in air that is higher up and out of the engine bay may solve a lot of you dust problems. If you have access to the EKTA, you can see the parts that I'm talking about. There's a long plastic hose and a plastic fitting/collector for the end of the hose that gets attached just below the rear most vent inside that cavity. It can go on either side---mine is on the driver's side since that the way the Subie 2.2 intake runs.
