My other favourite forum, TalkBass, uses the ubiquitous VBulletin software and it is full of the same repeated questions, just like the List.

Newbies ignore the NEWBIE Stickies and wade right in, asking the same dumb questions over and over.

There is no linking of the same subject.

You can't really ignore threads by subject because of the interesting digressions. Just like the List, you have to ignore the boring people! :)

Use Google for your Archive searches and Gmail for your subscription and you'll never miss a thing! :)
