A novel idea for sure, but do we really needs physical access? As a sysadmin for a campus network, I rarely need to visit our server room; all access is remote. Has a cheap $5- 10/month hosting package been considered? This may not offer listserv capability of the management access need, but for about $50 /mo, one can get a fully managed virtual server, which I imagine would do it. I hosted a list similar in size to the Vanagon list for many years at work, hidden away, but the management hassle of aging equipment was always a problem, and once we went off our flat-rate internet fees, I had to let it go. It would seem that the physical side of things has been the wrinkle for a while, and outsourcing the hosting would remove this issue. I do not have any experience with this, as we host all of our own services, so I could be offbase...

And kudos to Jim for sticking with it through all this!
