Jeff,

IIRC there are at least two different latching positions for the Weekender rear bench/bed. Unfortunately, not all vans are equipped with the two holes needed to latch every available bench type.

You need to be a little more specific about the year and model of the van you are putting the seat into and the same info for the van you took the seat out of. For example, your 90 Carat (assuming it's a bus and not a Jetta) is equipped with both holes but on an square stock welded to the body. They did this because that seat is narrower to accommodate the plastic side panels. That bench would require other work to fit into your 86. The seat in the 86 (if it's weekender bench) on the other hand will not latch properly in the Carat either. So you see why some more clarification is needed? I suppose you could but a Carat bench in the 86 if you use very long latching studs but that is another story for another day.

Cheers,

BenT
