Ya know, I've been contemplating designing some sort of swing-down (lockable) storage box for that long area under the sides--would be a great place for things like extra gas can, campstove fuel, jumper cables, jack, and "stuff". Your idea of "aerodynamics" just makes the idea even more appealing.

Has anyone ever fitted full belly pans under their Vanagon for increased aerodynamic efficiency? There's a lot under there that snags airflow and causes unnecessary drag. I'm contemplating installing galvanized sheets under the van and some in front. With 82hp every bit helps while going 75 mph.

Any engineering thoughts? How would you do it?
