What I saw on my Mexican Jetta engine I installed in my Vanagon? (VC --- ;^)

At least 10 points where the casing on the engine portion of wiring harness had cracked and exposed copper. (though they were *somewhat* still protected by the factory wrap) Also corrosion on the 28 contact connector between engine portion of wiring harness and ECU/etc. portion.

I'm NOT saying these are common problems, but it was obvious to me that the heat and moisture, affected these portions of the wiring.

If comparing a Golf or Jetta using the 2.0 AFAIK, this could happen to a German or Mexican assuming they used the same design.

I think the bigger issues are how well has a given car been maintained, how many *actual* (i.e. was the engine swapped?) miles/km's on it AND has an amateur "rodder" been messing with the wiring?

Check out vwvortex. There may be some useful info there.

Neil.
