Looks like we emailed a couple times in early January. I am the guy who
wasn't going to drive his van in the winter, but the need to use my new toy
won out over common sense, so I decided that I just wouldn't drive it when
there was salty slush on the roads. Seems like a fair tradeoff to me...
The price and availability of the Zetec is one of the reasons I chose the
Bostig conversion. I looked this morning and there are 108 Zetec 2.0L DOHC
available in Oregon right now on car-part.com. The fact that the Focus is
such a plentiful and affordable car that many drivers seem to get as their
first vehicle certainly appears to keep a fresh supply of low mileage donor
engines coming in.
If Jeff in Washington is the guy I think he is, he actually did the install
himself. I know this because I helped him with a couple questions about
what he would need for his conversion. Perhaps he was simply stating that
to have the conversion done by a professional installer would run about $10K
(which is still a bit high considering the simplicity of the install).
I am definitley planning to use the Bostig upgrade system. I think the
ability to affordably upgrade to the latest and greatest versions of the
conversion is a stroke of genius on Jim's behalf.

The one i can remember right now is last Dec or so one guy repsoned to my
comments abut 'where are they all ' buy saying his zetec vanagon was in a
snow bank for the winter.

Well the engines sure are cheap ! Nothing else with the technology comes
anywhere near 450 bucks with only 10,500 miles on it.
So you were driving for $ 5,000 after getting the kit, the misc parts and
putting it all in yourself ?
No complaints about that.
thought the other guy today said his was $ 10.000 to be driving after
paying a shop to do the work.
your fuel price is fine basically - 3.89 per gal of reg.
in Alaska it's in the high 4's right now i believe.
Are you planing to take advantage of the program for getting some credit
when you turn in your 1.0 version kit and upgrade to the 2.0 ?
i'm sure i read about an intention at least to have that program in place
for version 1.0 people.

I am currently getting 19-21 MPG with 87 Octane fuel running the "Power"

are running the supercharger or the turbo. Of course if you wanted to run

Regular unleaded in NH this morning was $3.89 at the 3 stations in my
town.
The new v2.0 setup is definitely the cats pajamas. I will most likely
be upgrading mine to the new setup when the upgrade kits become available in
a few weeks. Not that I really need to, it's just way too cool not to...
I think it has already been cleared up, but the total cost for the new
Bostig v2.0 kit is $4,175.00. This includes all of the conversion hardware,
but does not include the following:
Engine - Zetec 2.0L DOHC (2000-2004) - Mine was $450.00 with 10,500
miles.
Alternator - $50.00
Power Steering Pump - $40.00
My Bostig conversion took me about 15 hours to install working alone and
came in at a little less than $4,900.00 total including all fluids and new
serpentine and timing belts, which were too cheap and easy not to do while
the engine was out.

milege can be expected ?
oh, and on what fuel too please -
regular, mid-grade, or premium. ?
what is your regular there price any way ?
here it's right at $ 3.99 per gallon, and it's 10 % ethanol.too.
