Remember that as per U.S.  D.O.T. specs, passenger car tires must be derated
if used on a light truck such as a Vanagon. (See the below link for
details.) As a result, the minimum load index that is safe for use on a
Vanagon is 99 if you're using a passenger car tire.  Good luck finding such
a tire!

A good LT rated tire, such as our Hankook RA08 185R14's or 195R14's, exceeds
VW and D.O.T. specs for less money, and fits both the stock steel and alloy
Vanagon wheels.
