If economy is in good shape it won't matter if the gas is $10 or $20 a gallon as long as you can afford it. Global warming is of course another matter. But if you have no more equity loan to spend, and if you have no job and no insurance or very little social security to receive The gas price at $5 can hurt you. It's not a matter of if you are able to travel any more. It is a matter of bread and butter that many can no longer afford in this country in which you see homeless people in many corners of the street.
