Roger,
I'm pretty sure if you really study what Blue Tec modern diesel
technology invovles ...........
like Mercedes has one out now ............
you'll find electronic controls and common rail injection, and injection
fuel pressure about 6 times ( or something extreme compared to what our
VW TD non-tdi, non-electronica engines use ) what you have on your
van's engine.
Plus uera injection proably, plus special catalytic converter/s.
it's like asking if you can convert a piston aircraft engine to jet
almost - not quite that extreme really, but you get what i'm saying.
i.e. 'you can't get there from here." basically
Tings evolve in small steps at times.........but at other times to
really get anywhere............it has to be a whole other paradigm.
Yes, a blue tec engien is a piston diesel internal combustion engine
just like yours........but the ENTIRE fuel and combustion management
system is 20 times more evolved than what you have on your current
Vanagon TD engine.
hmmm..............just tried to find it quickly at Wikipedia and it
didn't just jump right up.
But scott says 'i don't think you can.'
nice thought though !!
Do you have an intercooler ?
If not that would be your next practical step forward I'm pretty sure.
In 'all' turbo engines, if they don't have an
intercooler...................the next step is to have one, either an
air type or a liquid cooler type.
Tdi people are always doing them. All electronic VW tdi engines use an IC.
Heck...........just in Combustion Chamber shape ALONE.........you can't
change a horse cart into a space ship, or even a car.
First it IS add-on mods to existing stuff. The first smog devices
staring in about 1971 were that. - retrofitted stuff to engines never
designed with low emissions in mind.
And those cars sucked all through the 70's..........
Until they got smart, started with a clean sheet of paper, and went to
electronic fuel injection and . combustion chambers deigned for low
emissions, and good driveability etc.
So i strongly suspect 'you can't blue tec your TDV !"
