Something else good to know is that if just a centimeter or so more clearance is required, then the window cranks can be (carefully) bent to clear the grills. You'll want to have extra cranks on hand since you'll probably break a few trying to do this. But as someone else mentioned somewhere, the cranks are $2 each so you could break a bunch and still come out better than buying the spacers.
