Subject: Rubber Mats: Do it yourself (NGW)
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="Windows-1252"

No Gasoline Whining Hi all, I made some mats for the front of my Vanagon from some horse barn flooring material that my S.O. had left over from a barn we built. I am going to do the same for the rear. This reclaimed hard rubber mat comes in various thickness, is made from old ground up tires and it's used in horse barns to give the horses traction. The stuff I used is about 5/16" thick and smooth on one side with a little texture on the other. It comes in 44" x ~6' sheets. I cut mine using a band saw, but a carpet/utility knife works too, and probably a saber saw. Very tough stuff (horses walk on it without leaving a mark in our barn where it is laid right over the dirt) It will probably be a good sound deadener also and I know it keeps stuff from sliding around in the van. It IS heavy... You can probably Google a source using Barn supplies, or maybe Horse Mat or Barn mat. I can ask my Marie where she got ours (when she wakes up) if anyone needs. I also have some pieces of that mat that I find useful on my workbenches..I toss a square on the bench when I do messy work or something that needs traction. I used a piece to cushion my old 944 T motor sitting on the concrete floor and I sometimes put it down to stand on if I am on my feet all day on concrete...Good stuff and very reasonable cost..
