I imagine that the gov't before long will come up with some sort of standard, be it safety or emissions, etc., that older cars (i.e., vanagons) do not meet and we won't be able to drive them unless we pay some sort of extra tax, which would make it far too expensive to own and force us all to buy "newer" vehicles making our Vanagons worthless.

I'm sure it would be sold as "good for our environment", "socially concious", "good for the economy", "to reduce our dependency", "bring jobs to America", or some other rhetoric like that.
