sure, this is done constantly. however, i would strongly advise you to use the yakima artificial gutters. the yakimas use four screws instead of two, and work with a thule rack. four screws distribute the load much better. while you are at it, consider putting gas shocks in the poptop to make it easier to open with a load. there is a pic of my setup at http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2234409180102149628orFyGu

if you go the shocks route i can give you all the parts numbers needed.
