We were there in 2004 and it was awesome.  Be prepared for very varied
weather, bring binoculars for all the whales you should see.  Most, if
not all campgrounds had a boil warning on the drinking water (we found
out that it's more of a liability avoidance issue than contaminated
water).

Newfoundland is quite unique with all kinds of different landscapes.
Also, it is a lot bigger than it looks on the map.  We covered most of
the island in two weeks, but could have used three.

There was a sign as we got off the ferry that said "rough roads next
50KM" or something like that.  It should have said "rough roads" period.
So I hope you have the proper tires on your Westy.  Have a great trip!

We are planning a trip to "the Rock" from eastern Ontario in mid july.
Has
anyone done this trip and if so, what advice do you have.  We are
preparing
the Vanagon mechanically and have some names of mechanics in the area.
Any
suggestions appreciated.  Also, any interest in caravanning all or part

the way?
