on the earlly aircooled vanagons there is actually a drain hole there. i have a '80 westy with factory drain holes there. but for some reason VW forgot to put the drain hole there on the wbx vans. the embossed channels and divit are there but no hole.

i take a 1/4" drill and drill holes there to let the water out..

oh.. also remember to remove those stupid black plastic round plugs in the lower inner corners of your hatch.. they hold water too and make your hatch bottom corners rot out..
