I use Broadband connection through my phone. I bought a laptop with the Verizon Broadband card in it and have good to fair service where ever there might be cell service. this isnt free but works great. With that said. There are many ways to accomplish this to be able to extend your current system. If you look for a PCM/CIA wireless card that has the expansion plug on the end you can buy a small/powerful antenna and a little tripod and use it at will when at campsite. I will try and give you some examples when not at work. I will be back next week and try and update this. > Date: Wed, 4 Jun 2008 11:39:07 -0700> From: rogerwhitt1@GMAIL.COM> Subject: Re: wi-fi extenders> To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> > dear christopher> have you actually done business with this cell america bunch> the web site sure looks cobbled together ...> the item looks interesting enough but to send out 500$ to a site that has> little awareness of how the barker page will render ... i am only speaking> here from my spidy sense tingling ..> i would love to hear others input .. seeing as i use wifi a lot when on the> road ...> thanks for the info ...> yours> > On Wed, Jun 4, 2008 at 10:54 AM, Christopher Gronski <gronski@gmail.com>> wrote:> > > There is so much free Internet out there, I was wondering if any Vanagon> > Volks were successfully using a device to boost an incoming free hot spot.> > I> > found a couple of solutions online:> >> >> > http://www.cellamericas.com/MotorhomeWiFi-Antenna-with-Link-Gauge-FREE-SHIPPING-pr-16424.html> >> > http://www.fjcomm.com/generated.asp?id=100> >> > I like the idea of a bridge, where the device connects to the Internet> > through wi-fi, and also allows devices to connect to it directly grabbing> > that connection.
