After pinching the hoses with clamps or locking pliers, I put a towel under the core to catch any coolant and then pulled the clamps and hoses. I used 2 copper end caps (1/2") shoved into the hose ends and then reused the hose clamps from the heater core. Then hoses can then be pushed back into the cavity to get them out of the way. You may want to crawl under to zip-tie then down to keep from flopping or touching something they shouldn't. Seems there was some controversy on whether to cap the hoses or let the coolant loop back. The heater valve allows either to happen depending on the valve setting, so probably makes no difference. However, if plugged, is the old coolant stagnating and not able to be flushed? The wise sages of the list may know...
