Speaking of a butterfly valve, or 'throttle' in the intake..........
I know where there is a perfectly sized on right on a diesel engine
already that could be adapted.........especially if welding aluminum
inake manifold parts - Mercedes diesels. For sure, at least the 240D
four cylinder has a throttle butterfly in the intake manifold.
re 'just having bigger brakes' ..................
Brakes and using them to slow down - pure wasted energy of course.
Re-gen braking is so obvious, but then you need an electric motor to be
able to take care advantage of the juice produced with braking.
( just think how exciting a huge long descent would be then - it's like
free gas !! - yahoo ! ) ................
and.............most interestingly I think.........in Formula 1
racing........I believe it's for the 2009 season...........Re-gen
braking is allowed and encouraged even.
it's so obvious a source of energy too.................a moving mass has
a ton of inherent energy ...............we most definitely should be
turning that energy into something that can be used to provide
propulsion too. ( Suddenly cities will grow in hilly areas !! , and
flat landers will complain that it's not fair )
Right now we are just throwing away energy in the form of heat and brake
pad dust when we touch that middle pedal.
Try driving with ever using your brakes...............it completely
changes your driving style, and save a lot of gas too. .
It probably will all be 'gas-electric' or diesel-elerctric hybrid pretty
soon.
and...........the Plug in gas-electric hybrid................that you
can also plug in at home and charge the battery off the grid or off your
solar panels.........
those can get in the 200 mpg range in local use.
I heard some guy converts Prius cars to plug-in capability and gets that
kind of millage in town.
man- the first "Dino fuel-electric Hybrid Vanagon or
Syncro....................now THAT is something to get excited about !!
And imagine the torque you could hove off road too !
Full motor torque right from zero rpm !
