Hello all,

My daughter and a few of her friends left New Jersey this morning, on the way to the Bonnaroo music festival. They are now stuck on highway 81, a little south of Bristol. She's driving my 1991 Vanagon. She said all the gauges look normal, no red lights. She has checked the water level in the expansion tank and the oil. Everything looks good. The van is smoking from the back, they can't tell exactly where it's coming from and has no power. They can only drive ~ 30 mph. I had her let it sit and cool off, then start again. It ran normally, then started smoking and lost power again, after just a mile or two. It sounds like it might be overheating? Even though the temp gauge reads normal. I had her run the front and rear heaters, she said there was a lot of hot air blowing.

Any ideas what she should be looking for?

Is there anyone close, willing to take a look, or recommend a good shop?

They are going to get a hotel for the night, but need to be back on the road as soon as possible, as there are 5 of them, at ~$250 a ticket L for entry to Bonnaroo. If they can't get the van going they might need to rent a car or something.

Thanks,

Clark
