You should be able to hear/feel the thrumming of the idle valve when you turn the ignition on. After driving a DigiJet van for ~15 years it freaks me out sometimes.

Does it run okay at higher speeds? If so, check your fuel pressure. That's a lot like what happened on my van when the regulator went - it was just drowning at idle.
