Subject: Empty weight -- 86 Weekender, FWIW

Occasionally I see posts from folks wondering what these Vanagon beasts weigh. Monty was trying to earn his keep the other day by hauling demolition trash to the transfer station ("the dump"). I'm not running with the full complement of "stuff" because he has recently gotten an new engine. So he essentially has a jack and lug wrench and that's about it.

Used to have AC but most of the stuff is gone (the underdash fan remains). Automatic transmission with a 2.2 liter WBX (from NW Connecting Rod). Running 15 inch steel wheels with Michelin LTX M/S 215/75/15 load range D tires. He has the weekender stuff (shorter closet, wider rear seat/bed, jump seat behind driver seat, extra battery) except the 12V refrigerator.

He weighed 3700 lbs (subtracting me) with a 1/2 tank of gas.

I didn't see a "curb weight" in the specifications section of the owner's manual. I guess that's because all of the different configurations of the Vanagon would have made it pointless.

Mark
