Sure, you can store it there.  Every car bounces more in the back and can
wear out the bottom of the oil can if it is resting on hard surface.  I like
the left side of the car in the rear better though.  I would use a water
proof box that won't slide out.  Remember, the water runs down to that place
from the gutter and pools up.

I'm completely terrified of getting stuck somewhere with no oil, and with my
Subbievaroom ® I have some space behind the passenger tail light in the
engine bay. Hence, I noticed that this space can reasonable, and easily,
hold 6 quarts of oil. So the Question of the Day ® is can I safely store
engine oil there, if held securely, even in (a) more acceptable containers?
OR (Capital Or ®), will the storing of oil in this location degrade the oil,
and render it unfit for engine consumption? Please let me know, platonically
speaking.
