The Vanagon is extremely sensitive to mis matched tires. The Hakka CS is basically a mud/snow tire with a tread compound that provides so reasonable life for all season use. The high void ratio and lack of rib tread make for a tire that has different tracking characteristics. Putting this type of tire on the rear with a rib tire on the front almost always makes for a Vanagon that becomes twitchy with lots of over steer and amzing abilities to change lanes without warning. Adding more front caster will help but just not a good idea.

All tire and auto manufacturers recomend not mixing winter tires with other types. One rear wheel drive vehicles, waht is the sense of going if you can't stop or steer.
